CrossFit UNC’s Tar Heel Challenge

We are excited to host our 1st Annual Tar Heel Challenge this weekend November 5th from 10 am to 3 pm. We will have more than 20 participants from UNC, NC State, ECU, UVA, Elon and Pfeifer. If you haven’t had a chance to officially register, you can register the day of. This is our first competition which we hope will expand in the future to a premier inter-collegiate competition, so if you have friends who want to register they are more than welcome to join in.
The first heat begins at 10:00 am please be there 30 minutes early to complete registration and to warm up.

Parking: There is a parking deck off South Rd. by Hooker fields and Carmichael Auditorium. The Eddie Smith Field House is located by the track.
When: The first heat will begin at 10 am (Plan on arriving at 9:15-9:30 am)
Lunch: We will provide a light lunch which will either be provided by Jimmy Johns or Carolina Dining services. Some drinks and refreshments will also be provided during the event.
WODs: The WODs were created by the owner of CrossFit Local and will be announced the day of the event. There will be three WODs, and the WODs will be broken up into heats. Each heat will have seven competitors.
Judges and Scoring: Judges will be provided by CrossFit Local as well. The scoring system will be identical to the scoring system used in the 2011 CrossFit Games. First place will earn 100 points, second 95, decreasing by 5 points for each place until 6th place, after which the points decrease by 2 points per place.

TABATA
Tabata is a kind of high-intensity interval training which consists of 20seconds of work followed by 10seconds rest. This is repeated 8 time with one exercise for a total of 4 minutes. There is a one minute break and then the process is repeated with a different exercise. We will be doing 4 exercises: the pushup, the thruster, lemon squeezers, and the burpee.
